Hi, My name is Troy Schmidt and I have been an agent at EXIT Realty Professionals since February 24, 2016. Let me tell you a little history about myself. My dad was in the Navy and was overseas stationed in South Korea when he met my mom. They became pen pals and after a few years he went back to South Korea to ask her to marry him. About a year later I was born in the Pusan, South Korea area where my mom's side of the family still lives to this day. When I was about 3 or 4 years old we made the move back to the USA and lived various places before settling down in the capital city of my dad's home state of Nebraska.
When we first came to America my mom didn't speak much English and my dad was looking for any employment opportunities. So as you can imagine, we started from very little. Eventually my dad would get a job at Duncan Aviation as a hydraulics technician where he worked for over 25 yeas. My mom was always very eager to learn the American business practices and taught herself about the real estate business by reading books and studying hard. She and my dad had always kept that vision in their minds for having a better life for our family. So finally my parents would purchase their first investment property a 9-unit apartment by Lincoln High. Eventually we started shifting our focus to real estate where we started out with apartment rentals.
Although I am a relatively new agent, my family has been in the real estate business as property owners and property managers for more than 20 years. So, I guess you can say I was raised in the environment where real estate was a major focus. My earliest involvement with real estate was to help my parents tear down and fix up apartment rentals that they owned around town. As I grew up, my parents business grew as well. They now own a restaurant franchise, multiple houses, duplexes, apartments, and even commercial property. I attended college to get a business degree but I found that my passion really wasn't in business management. I realized that I wanted to stay involved with my parents real estate endeavors and that I could also make a good living for myself here in Lincoln, NE.
When I met Terry Lindstrom for the fist time he seemed very excited to tell me about his new franchise EXIT. At the time I had been studying to pass my real estate exam and was struggling with it but he told me to just keep at it and that I would have an opportunity with his company once I finally passed. So when I finally passed he was true to his word and gave me my first opportunity in the business, which I am very grateful for. I really feel that EXIT is on the verge of becoming a main stay in our market and am very excited to be a part of our new and growing operation.
